Advanced students will understand that the purpose of Hatha Yoga is "to gain control of the breath" to enable pranayama to work through using the six purifications. The practice of asanas is not for the body but to bring steadiness, health, and lightness to limbs. A steady and pleasant posture produces mental equilibrium and prevents fickleness of the mind. They bring agility, balance, endurance, and "great vitality", developing the body to a "fine physique which is strong and elastic without being muscle-bound. The real importance is the way to train the mind to conquer the body and make it a fit gross body for the soul to reside within.
Historically, asanas are named after plants, insects, fish and amphibians, reptiles, birds, and quadrupeds as well as "legendary heroes", sages, and avatars of Hindu Gods. They are merely "illustrating spiritual evolution'. When we are performing asanas, we are taking the form of different creatures, from the lowest to the highest of the creation which all breathe with the same Universal Soul. Through mastery of the asanas, the dualities like gain and loss, fame and shame, or ego and humbleness disappear. When a muscle that is worked is able to relax means there is a distinction between dormancy and relaxation. Thus asanas had a spiritual purpose, serving to explore the conscious and unconscious mind. Being an advanced 500 Hours Yoga Teacher Training Course student, one must understand holistically the meaning of yoga and of its real purpose for life, according to ancient systems and beliefs.

Asanas are yoga postures and the physical movements of yoga practice and, in combination with pranayama or breathing techniques constitute the style of yoga referred to as Hatha yoga. Traditionally asanas are positions, which make us fit and healthy all the way. In the yoga sutra, Patanjali describes asana as a "firm, comfortable posture", referring specifically to the seated posture, the most basic of all the asanas. Normally asanas will be held for an average of two or three minutes.

Yoga Sutra
i. The four paths of Yoga Sutra
ii. The discipline of life
The main philosophy of yoga is simple: mind, body, and spirit are all one and cannot be clearly separated. Yet there is a multitude of philosophical ideas developed by looking into the deeper dimensions of the body, mind, and spirit. Yoga is a set of spiritual practices but in itself is not an institutionalized religion, per se. The philosophy of yoga is one of the six major orthodox schools of Hinduism. Ancient medieval and most modern literature often refers to the school of Hinduism simply as yoga. It gives us a blueprint to follow, which leads us to a happy, healthy, and peaceful life. Yet there is a multitude of philosophical ideas developed by looking into the deeper dimensions of the body, mind, and spirit. The 8 stages of yoga….are YAMA, NIYAMA, ASANA, PRANAYAM, PRATYAHARA, DHARANA, DHYANA AND SAMADHI.

Mudras and Bandhas:
Mudra can be described psychic, emotional gesture. It is a combination of subtle physical movements which influence our mind, pranic body, internal organ, and concentration. There are hand mudra, body mudra, and facial mudra thus Hand Mudra is the most famous. When the Mudras are practiced at the highest level, it leads to awakening the Prana, Chakra, and Kundalini which can bestow specific powers. Mudra manipulates Prana and eventually our Nadi and Chakra.
It is a term for the body locks in Hatha yoga, treated under the heading of mudra. Specific Bandhas are; Mula Bandha, contraction of the perineum, Uddiyana Bandha, contraction of the abdomen into the rib cage, Jalandhara Bandha, tucking the chin close to the chest, and Maha Bandha, combining all three of the above Bandhas. Among these, I will give you a short description of a few important ones. You can select that which suits you well and practice regularly. Ayurveda or Ayurvedic medicine is a system of traditional Hindu medicine native to the Indian subcontinent. Contemporary practices derived from Ayurvedic traditions are a type of alternative medicine. Ayurveda is a discipline of the upaveda or "auxiliary knowledge" in Vedic tradition. The origins of Ayurveda are also found in the Atharvaveda, which contains 114 hymns and incantations described as magical cures for disease. Since then Ayurveda has stood for the wholesome physical, mental and spiritual growth of humanity around the world. Today, it's a unique, indispensable branch of medicine, a complete naturalistic system that depends on the diagnosis of your body's humours - vata, pitta and kapha - to achieve the right balance.
